Your care

Could an injection help your pain?

Cortisone injections use a corticosteroid medicine to reduce inflammation.

I’ll assess your symptoms before recommending any injection. We’ll discuss expected benefits, alternatives and possible risks.

Treatment suitability depends on your diagnosis, health and previous treatments.

Assessment first

Tell me how pain affects your movement, sleep and daily activities.

An informed choice

We’ll consider rehabilitation, medicines and other options alongside injection treatment.

Clear aftercare

You’ll receive advice about rest, activity and when to seek help.
Benefits & limitations

Realistic expectations.

Relief varies. Injections do not cure the underlying cause of every painful condition.

For osteoarthritis, NICE describes steroid injection relief lasting around 2–10 weeks, but it can last many months for some people.

Injections may support exercise when other medicines are unsuitable or ineffective.

Safety & aftercare

What should I know beforehand?

Possible risks include temporary pain, bruising, skin changes and infection.

Blood glucose can rise, particularly if you have diabetes.

Tell me about allergies, infections, diabetes and medicines, including blood thinners.

Do not stop prescribed medicines without advice.

Seek urgent advice for worsening redness, heat, swelling or fever after treatment.
