Understand your pain. Explore your options. Choose a plan that fits your life.
£175 injection or aspiration · £118 assessment only
Assessment-only means neither injection nor aspiration is performed.

Dr Sheikh can assess the following conditions and discuss injections where appropriate. Being on this list does not mean an injection is the best treatment for every patient.
Pain when reaching overhead can make dressing, working or sleeping uncomfortable. A shoulder assessment can help identify whether bursitis or rotator cuff-related pain is involved.
Explore assessment and treatment →Shoulder pain during lifting or reaching can affect everyday independence. An assessment helps distinguish tendon-related pain from stiffness, joint disease or a significant injury.
Explore assessment and treatment →When shoulder stiffness makes dressing or reaching difficult, understanding the cause is the first step. Discuss whether an injection could help the painful phase of frozen shoulder.
Explore assessment and treatment →Pain on top of the shoulder can come from the small acromioclavicular joint. A focused examination helps establish whether this joint is responsible for your symptoms.
Explore assessment and treatment →Persistent shoulder pain and stiffness can make routine tasks harder. Discuss a management plan that considers movement, comfort and whether an injection is appropriate.
Explore assessment and treatment →Pain on the outside of the elbow can make gripping, lifting or using a keyboard uncomfortable. Discuss recovery options and the limitations of steroid injections before deciding.
Explore assessment and treatment →Inner elbow pain can interfere with work, sport and everyday lifting. Assessment can help you choose between rehabilitation, activity changes and other treatment options.
Explore assessment and treatment →A swelling over the point of the elbow needs the right diagnosis. Assessment comes before decisions about aspiration or an injection, especially if the area is hot or red.
Explore assessment and treatment →Night-time tingling or numbness can interrupt sleep and make hand use difficult. A clinical assessment helps establish whether carpal tunnel syndrome is the cause.
Explore assessment and treatment →Pain on the thumb side of your wrist can make lifting or gripping difficult. Discuss whether a splint, activity changes or an injection could help.
Explore assessment and treatment →A finger or thumb that catches or locks can make simple tasks frustrating. Assessment can help you understand whether an injection or another treatment is suitable.
Explore assessment and treatment →Pain at the base of the thumb can make opening jars or turning keys difficult. Discuss options to improve comfort and protect useful hand function.
Explore assessment and treatment →Painful, stiff hand or wrist joints can affect work and independence. An assessment can identify the troublesome joint and help plan suitable treatment.
Explore assessment and treatment →A troublesome joint during a rheumatoid arthritis flare may need additional treatment. Assessment should fit alongside your existing rheumatology care and medicines.
Explore assessment and treatment →Sudden joint pain and swelling should be assessed carefully. Discuss treatment for a suspected gout flare and whether an injection or aspiration is appropriate.
Explore assessment and treatment →Cortisone is a commonly used term for corticosteroid treatment. A local injection aims to reduce inflammation and symptoms around an appropriate joint or soft-tissue structure. It is different from anabolic steroids.
The treatment is intended to support a wider management plan. It does not reverse arthritis or repair a torn tendon.
Explain what your symptoms stop you doing, what you have already tried and your priorities. Dr Sheikh will discuss diagnosis, alternatives and whether a procedure is suitable.
For tennis elbow, the short-term relief from steroid can be outweighed by recurrence and poorer longer-term outcomes. Olecranon bursitis also needs careful selection because many cases do not require an injection.
| Appointment outcome | Fee |
|---|---|
| Steroid injection, with assessment and holistic management advice | £175 |
| Aspiration alone | £175 |
| Aspiration with steroid injection, when appropriate | £175 |
| GP assessment with neither injection nor aspiration | £118 |
Aspiration removes fluid using a needle when clinically appropriate. It may be considered for selected swellings or joints. Aspiration alone costs £175; aspiration with a suitable steroid injection is also £175.
Ultrasound-guided injections are not offered by Dr Sheikh but can be done at other locations. If examination suggests these or another service would be preferable, Dr Sheikh will discuss the next step.
Possible effects include a temporary pain flare, bruising, skin colour change, local fat loss and raised blood glucose. Rare complications include infection, allergy and tendon damage. Repeated injections require careful review.
Tell Dr Sheikh about infections, diabetes, allergies, blood-thinning medicines, pregnancy, previous injections and planned procedures. Do not stop prescribed medicines without advice.
Discuss recovery advice for your procedure, including driving, work and exercise. Arrange reassessment if symptoms persist rather than assuming another injection is needed.
Seek urgent medical advice for a hot, swollen joint with worsening pain, fever or feeling unwell. After an injection, new severe or worsening symptoms also need prompt assessment. Call 999 for breathing difficulty or sudden mouth or throat swelling.
Choose your clinic and call reception. Ask for an assessment with Dr Amer Sheikh and explain your main symptoms. An injection is offered only when clinically appropriate.
